What are the Family Problems regarding Social Media Addiction ?

  • Lack of family members interaction
  • Losing interpersonal relationship skills
  • Decreasing the feeling of safety within the family unit
  • Children are lack of warmth and affection
  • Children may try to get attention by performing aggressive behaviour

At the present time, parents tend to focus more about their business without enough caring on their children which leads to less interaction between family members. As they usually think the more money they make the best life they can afford for their kids. What even worse is that some parents are remote employees where they work all day at home by using electronic devices and they could not separate time for their family members.

Moreover, working through electronic devices parents are often get distracted by online commercials For example, " 50% discount in all items buy now! " This attraction may extend a time spending on social media which eventually likely to cause most parents desire in consuming cheap materials online. As a result, when children are back home after school and they wanted to share some good memories with their parents but unfortunately their mum or dad are busy working with phones or ordering some goods online. Lastly children may have to repress what they want to share out whether it is positive or negative so that they do not have to disturb their parents.

Furthermore, if children keep doing this for a long period of time it may decrease the feeling of safety within the family unit because they are solving all the problems by themselves no advice is given therefore they are not protected by anyone in the family just like when they are outside. Apart from this, children having this issues are tend to lack of warmth and affection that may affect their well-being in the future.

More research shows that children growing up with parental warmth tend to have a high rate of well-being across social, emotional and psychological dimensions (Deseret News, 2019) .
