What The Experts Say II

Does Social Media influences on Body Image?

The study investigated that social media influenced more than 1200 adolescents body image and body changing strategies such as gaining weight, increase muscle and reducing weight. This investigation was done on females and males, the results came out that females tend to make use of body changing strategies seeing through social media accordingly in order to lose weight. On the other hand, males were more focusing in gaining their weight to have more muscle.

Moreover, the researchers claimed that by focusing in losing and gaining weight, females and males would require to have a limited amount of food which can impacts on their body structure in both negative and positive ways. For example, after perceiving a new knowledge about dietary through social media, without any consideration if it is reliable or not a woman decided to stop consuming rice immediately as she wanted to lose weight but this is leading to nutrition insufficient. Thus, this person may have to deal with health problems if she keeps doing it for a long period of time.
Therefore people who are perceiving media should logically analyse the strategies of changing body image precisely if it is true or false before they start to imitate or transforming themselves based on what they have seen (Search-proquest-com.unyp.idm.oclc.org, 2019).
