My View
What are my perspectives towards Social Media Addiction?
Nowadays, over 3.5 billion people from around the world are part of social media users. This is approximately 46 percent of the whole world population. The top social platforms with the most active users are Facebook, YouTube and Whatsapp (DataReportal – Global Digital Insights, 2019). According to the amount of people who take part in social media, it is now becomes one of the most powerful way of mass communication. Therefore social media can create significant impacts to those who are using it in both positives and negatives way.People often do not recognise how much social media may affect their life in a bad way. The survey found that general social media users usually spend 10 to 20 minutes on an applications after attending it. In each application they keep visiting back and forth more than 10 times per day in order to update what is going on around them (Study Finds, 2019). Anything that requires a lot of time are likely to cause some impact on people healths including social media. For instance, As people are carrying their smartphones and devices with them everywhere there is a possibility that they may be addicted to social media that can cause people to have an eye strain, depression and lack of sleep (Sysomos, 2019)
On the other hand, social media can be an absolutely beneficial tools for people who are using it in an effective way. Cody Neer, the CEO of several multimillion dollar ecommerce brands, reported that he use social media to drive traffic to more than 300 of his ecommerce stores and he becomes successful as people who are seeing it follow to those brands and start purchasing the items. Thus, his brands are estimated to cross approximately 60 million dollars by the end of 2019 (Tariq, 2019). Moreover, social media is an incredible tool to sustain new trends and technologies advancements. For example, in 2018 around 95 million people are using Uber application monthly (Statista, 2019). This can be seen that social media is use as part of a business in this case for ride- hailing and food-delivery to facilitate and satisfy people needs (Paul, 2019). Apart from this, some user believed that social media can make you happier. The study was done by researchers at Michigan State University demonstrated that people who are more active on Facebook tend to give advice , showed empathy and support in some way as well as showing an increase in their well-being more than passive (Happier.com, 2019).
In conclusion, social media can bring variety of advantages such as increasing in business sales, applying as the main key of running business and creating happiness for human life by sharing their with other online users and receiving advices. Even though there are some drawbacks in health for long term using, it is not a problem if people know how to limit themselves and not spending too much time on social media.

Wow, I really enjoyed reading your blog , this topic might be the most relevant in our ”information age”. In my case, I also gather both, negative and positive impact, for example, I can’t sleep without checking my smartphone which then affect my regime and reduces my sleep and that’s ready disturbing because it’s an “addiction”. An optimist contrast to this influence, is sharing and the availability of an enormous amount of information, both useful and useless. :)
ReplyDeleteI really liked your blog and I think the topic is very important to our society. The visuals and decals in your blog are stunning!
ReplyDeleteUse of social media is beneficial to people who work in the media but for others it is pretty harmful. From my personal experience I am actually addicted to my phone, I feel weird and anxious if my phone is not in my hand. I spend a lot of time using Instagram which affects my studying but I am working on it. I like that you used statistics, it helped me understand how serious the problem is.
